AW26 Key Item: Bomber Jackets

AW26 Key Item: Bomber Jackets

Bomber jackets re-emerge as one of the clearest key items of AW26 – showing up across enough collections to move beyond trend and into something closer to default outerwear.

What distinguishes this cycle from previous iterations is how embedded the silhouette feels. Rather than appearing as a directional statement, the bomber is used consistently across brands as a key item layer.

At Coach and Calvin Klein, the jacket leans classic – cropped leather, clean lines, minimal detailing. Burberry and Rag & Bone introduce more volume and sport influence, while Brunello Cucinelli softens the shape through texture and layering. Even at Polo Ralph Lauren and Adam Lippes, where styling varies significantly, the core silhouette remains intact.

The last major bomber cycle peaked in the mid-2010s, driven largely by streetwear and military references. AW26 appears different. The silhouette is more refined, less oversized, and less dependent on trend-driven styling. Materials do much of the work – leather, wool, suede, and shearling shift the bomber into a more elevated space.

At the same time, it retains its practicality. Compared to other outerwear directions this season, the bomber is one of the most wearable and adaptable pieces. It integrates easily into existing wardrobes and works across a range of climates and lifestyles.

This balance – between familiarity and refinement – is what gives the trend longevity this time around. Rather than returning as a statement piece, the bomber is being repositioned as a standard.
