AW26 Runway Trend: Leather Skirts

AW26 Runway Trend: Leather Skirts

As with previous Autumn/winter seasons, leather remains one of AW 2026’s defining materials, appearing across outerwear, tailoring, dresses, and accessories. But among the season’s many leather stories, the skirt stands out as one of the strongest and most widely adopted item trends.

What’s notable isn’t a single silhouette, but the sheer breadth of interpretation. Midi, mini, wrapped, pleated, paneled, pencil, and softly draped versions all appeared across the runways. Rather than dictating one shape, designers used leather as the common denominator, allowing construction and styling to create distinctly different moods.

At Hermès and Bottega Veneta, leather skirts feel refined and understated, emphasizing clean lines and impeccable craftsmanship. Isabel Marant and Coach offer more relaxed, everyday interpretations, pairing leather with chunky knits and casual separates. Meanwhile, Balmain, Elie Saab, and Bibhu Mohapatra push the material toward evening, using rich finishes, sculptural draping, and elevated styling to create a more polished presence.

This versatility is precisely what makes the trend commercially compelling. A leather skirt can anchor a minimalist wardrobe just as easily as it can serve as a statement piece, making it relevant across a wide range of customer profiles and price points.

Expect retailers to continue expanding the category through varied lengths, finishes, and fabrication. While silhouettes will evolve, the message from the runway is clear: for AW26, leather isn’t confined to jackets. The skirt has become one of the season’s key investment pieces.
